What the game uses
The game uses your chosen name, a random guest identifier, optional selfie, short microphone recordings, room activity and scores. You can use a coloured avatar instead of a selfie. Microphone and camera access are requested when needed; the camera is optional.
Your room's players can see names, avatars, scores and game activity, and hear recordings during the game. Anyone with the four-letter code can join while there is space, so share it only with people you want to play with.
How scoring works
Recordings travel over HTTPS to our server hosted by Fly.io in London. Our own server runs the speech comparison model. Audio is not sent to a paid AI API. Unless you explicitly opt in to research below, it is not retained for research or used to train models. We do not sell recordings or use advertising or cross-app tracking.
Optional scoring research
Newer app versions offer this choice during setup before the microphone check. A saved yes or no is remembered. You can also use Privacy & your data → Help improve scoring to explicitly allow us to retain your future target words and backwards attempts, associated scores and human labels for up to 90 days. Sharing requires your permission and is not required to play. Once you enable it, future eligible recordings are collected automatically until you turn it off; you do not need to agree again every round. Reviewers authorized by ERMAHGERD LIMITED can listen to these recordings, label what is spoken and how close attempts sound, and use this information to evaluate and train our own scoring models. Only record your own voice; avoid capturing bystanders. We only retain a comparison when both the target speaker and attempting player have opted in.
Research copies use random guest identifiers; display names and selfies are not copied into the research library. The copies are the short recordings processed for gameplay, including audio trimming. We may export labeled copies for private analysis on our own computers, with the same retention and withdrawal requirements. They are not published or sent to paid AI services. Training and evaluation require separate review; sharing does not automatically change the live scoring model.
You can turn research sharing off in the app to delete retained research recordings and labels involving your voice, including comparisons that depend on your target recording. Deleting your guest data also removes this research data. This does not undo research already completed. Downloaded research copies cannot be erased remotely; we must remove them from our private working datasets and check current consent before further training. Contact us if you need help. Earlier app versions have no research opt-in and their recordings are not copied for this purpose.
Optional score feedback
If you choose “Rating not accurate?” during play, we store the server score, scoring version, attempt identifier, round, your too-high or too-low choice and random guest identifiers for up to 90 days. Repeated reports from the same guest about the same attempt count once. Admins can use reports to investigate scoring problems; they do not change points or automatically train a model. Reporting does not enable recording retention. Audio is available to admins only while both speakers’ existing, consented research copies remain. Deleting guest data removes reports sent by that guest and reports about their attempts. Server score receipts without audio last only until the room expires, so feedback can finish sending when a round moves on.
Browser sound checks and listening reviews
Separately from in-app research sharing, people can choose to send us browser sound-check exports for scoring research. These contain the players’ nicknames, short voice recordings and their ratings. We may make consented checks available to invited reviewers through personal links. Reviewers see a checklist; player names, target word text and earlier ratings are hidden. The first description of an attempt is saved before the reviewer can hear its original.
With the reviewer’s agreement, their nickname, study history, answers and progress save on our server. A personal review key may be stored in their browser so they can return to the same checklist. Keep this link private. Hosted source recordings and linked answers expire within 90 days of the source consent date; reviewer profiles are kept for at most 90 days. Ask our support team to remove a sound check or reviewer data, or revoke a review link. Deletion from the game does not identify a separate browser-study export; contact us to remove that too. No paid AI service receives these recordings, and saved reviews do not automatically change game scores.
How long data stays
Previous-round recordings are deleted when the next round starts. Rooms expire two hours after creation; a cleanup runs every minute to remove expired room state, memberships, selfies and remaining recordings. Failed uploads may be held temporarily on your phone for retry and are cleared when the session ends or the pending recording expires. Players may still have temporary playback data until their phone moves on or leaves.
A random guest authentication identity and session credentials remain so your phone can reconnect. We use guest creation dates and last room activity to count sign-ups and active players, and keep aggregate daily room, game, submission and score counts. Guest identities are not verified individual people. Use Privacy & your data → Delete my guest data on the home screen to delete this identity and its activity and research records. Deletion also ends rooms you are still part of and removes their recordings and selfies for everyone. Aggregate counts without guest identifiers remain. You can play again with a fresh guest identity.
The beta uses encrypted persistent server storage with automatic volume snapshots disabled. Hosting and authentication services may retain operational logs, including connection information such as IP addresses. The game does not deliberately log recording contents; operational records are separate from room deletion.
Your choices and requests
To request access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, email itsmemeworks@gmail.com. Tell us whether your request concerns the app, a browser sound check or a listening review. Please do not send passwords or private audio. Because guest accounts do not have verified names or emails, we may need help locating your records; the in-app deletion control is the quickest way to remove your guest data.
TestFlight and your choices
Installing a beta does not, by itself, enable research sharing. Your microphone check is not a training submission. Apple handles TestFlight invitations, tester information, submitted screenshots, feedback and crash reports under its own policies. Feedback may include content you choose to share. You can revoke microphone or camera access in iPhone Settings, stop using the app, delete guest data in the app, or contact us about your data. This beta notice will be updated if the game changes.
